“The Tölt design really changed the game.” - Thomas Fevang (Farrier, Norway)

When you’ve been around Icelandic horses since childhood, you learn to read them like a book. For farrier Thomas Fevang (36) farriery isn’t just a job, it’s a love for the animal, its feet and a centuries-old craft.

“I’ve been shoeing horses since I was 16,” Thomas says. “I started in Denmark, then came back to Norway to build my career. I’ve been luckyenough to work with some of the best Icelandic horses in the country. If the hoof is right, everything else falls into place.”

The Icelandic insights
Thomas’ history as a competitive rider gives him a unique edge. He understands not just how a hoof should look, but how a horse should feel under saddle too. “In this work, the rider is my best source of feedback. You can’t know the horse without riding it. Together, we make small, precise adjustments to get the perfect balance.” Thomas shoes Icelandic horses for competition, mountain hikes and big stables. For sport horses, he plans shoeing to perfection. Most horses perform best two to three weeks after being shod, so for him competition timing is everything.

Why the Kerckhaert Tölt wins
Thomas has been a Kerckhaert fan for years, but the Tölt design really changed the game. “It’s just easy to work with and easy on the horse. That’s the real magic.” For Thomas the basics in the shoeing are the most important. He immediately starts learning what he has to work with: are the hooves healthy and in balance? Does the horse move correctly? “The shoe has to fit the hoof and not the other way around. That’s where the Tölt shoe makes it all easy. It has a perfect fit with wider heels and I hardly have to use my hammer. The Tölt really is a great shoe to work with having every size within 23 mm, being a bit stronger and giving the horse more area todistribute its weight.” Thomas also likes the sole relief on the horseshoe, so the shoe doesn’t put any pressure on the sole. For Thomas, the Kerckhaert Tölt isn’t just a product; it’s a partner in creating balance, comfort, and performance for a breed that demands the best. “Get the basics right, use the right tools and the horse will tell you the rest.

Liberty Hybrid Cu, his absolute favourite For nails, Thomas swears by Liberty Hybrid; always in copper. “I’ve used this nails for over 10 years. They just fit perfectly, hold like nothing else and I’ve seen copper nails keep hooves healthier. Less infection, cleaner nail holes, better overall condition.” Thomas uses the size 4 and goes a size up when using pads so he has enough material to nitt and secure the whole package.

"If the hoof is right, everything else falls into place.”
